Discovering Genetic Regulatory Network Models in Pisum sativum

چکیده

Living organisms consist of interacting objects such as organs, cells, and genes. Therefore, they can be considered complex systems and we have applied a complex systems simulation methodology to a living organism, focussing on the relationship between interacting genes and phenotype. Different levels can be distinguished in a complex system, from the level with the most fine-grained entities, through intermediate levels of composite entities, to the whole system. Properties and interactions of entities at a lower or microlevel give rise to properties and behaviour of more course-grained entities at a higher or macro-level, but the latter are not obviously predictable from the former. This phenomenon of macro-level properties and behaviour arising out of micro-level properties and behaviour, without being apparent from them, is known as emergence, a fundamental property of complex systems.

Genetic diversity among Spanish pea (Pisum sativum L.) landraces, pea cultivars and the World Pisum sp. core collection assessed by retrotransposon-based insertion polymorphisms (RBIPs)

A total of 122 accessions of different wild and cultivated Pisum sp. were analysed using retrotransposon-based insertion polymorphisms (RBIP) markers. The Pisum materials included wild and cultivated (landraces and cultivars) materials from the World core collection of the John Innes Centre (JI) representing all generally recognized Pisum taxa, landraces materials from the Spanish core collecti...

Optimum conditions for asparaginase extraction from Pisum sativum subspp. Jof. Zena Abdulla Khalaf, Nabeel Khalaf Al-Ani* and Hameed Majeed Jasim

Asparaginase was extracted from plant parts of Pisum sativum subspp. Jof collected from a field crop. Asparaginase activity was detected in seeds, stems and leaves extracts. Enzyme activity was higher in seeds extracts (30.0 U/ml) compared with leaves extracts (26.4 U/ml) and stems extracts (16.1 U/ml), respectively. Optimum conditions for the activity of crude asparaginase extracted from plant...

Emergent Models in a Multi-Level Biochemical Network Regulating Pea Flowering

The Emergent Models methodology (EM) is an adaptive computational method for discovering models of complex systems in computer simulations (Stolk 2005). EM uses machine learning and optimisation algorithms such as genetic programming. Stolk and Hanan (2007) used EM to discover genetic regulatory network models of branching in Pisum sativum (pea). Here EM is used to discover models of genetic an...

High-Throughput Development of SSR Markers from Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Based on Next Generation Sequencing of a Purified Chinese Commercial Variety

Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important food legume globally, and is the plant species that J.G. Mendel used to lay the foundation of modern genetics. However, genomics resources of pea are limited comparing to other crop species. Application of marker assisted selection (MAS) in pea breeding has lagged behind many other crops. Development of a large number of novel and reliable SSR (simple sequ...
